Colour Disclaimer & Interactive Colour Preview Tool

At Edible Final Touch, we always try to print your design as close as possible to the file you provide. However, edible printing will not match a phone, tablet, or computer screen exactly. This page explains why, how to reduce colour surprises, and gives you an interactive colour tool to preview RGB, HEX, and estimated CMYK values.

Please note: edible colours are different from regular commercial inks. Screens are light-based and brighter. Edible prints are produced on edible media with food-safe inks, so some colour shift is normal and expected.

Use this tool to pick a colour, type a HEX code, adjust RGB sliders, and see an estimated CMYK conversion for reference.

Approximate edible print feel

A softer, flatter approximation to show why edible output may look less vivid.

Important: the CMYK value shown here is an estimated conversion for guidance only. Actual edible output depends on printer, edible ink set, media type, colour profile, artwork file, and dessert surface.

Upload Your File to Inspect Colours

Upload an image, then move your mouse over it or tap on mobile to sample any visible colour. The tool will show the picked colour as HEX, RGB, estimated CMYK, and a simple colour name.

How to use: After uploading, hover with your mouse on desktop or tap the image on mobile to inspect a colour. For best results, upload the original artwork file instead of a screenshot.

Why colours look different from screen to print

Screens emit light. Printed edible sheets do not. This alone makes screen colours appear brighter and more vibrant.
Each device is different. iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows, tablets, and external monitors can all show the same file differently.
Screen settings change colour. True Tone, Night Shift, Night Light, blue-light filters, vivid mode, and display warmth all affect what you see.
Edible inks are not the same as standard inks. They usually print softer, less saturated, and more matte than commercial print.
Edible paper changes output. Icing sheets, wafer paper, drink toppers, and other edible media all receive colour differently.
Lighting matters. Daylight, warm indoor bulbs, venue lighting, and photography can all change perceived colour.
Metallic and fluorescent effects are limited. Gold, silver, chrome, neon, glow, and reflective effects are not reproduced as true metallic or fluorescent finishes in edible printing.

How to avoid colour surprises

1) Prepare your file properly

Send the original artwork file whenever possible.
Avoid screenshots, social media downloads, and photos of a screen.
Use high-resolution PNG, PDF, or high-quality JPG.
Use sRGB as the file colour space when possible for artwork shared online.
Embed a colour profile if your software allows it.
Do not over-edit or repeatedly save the same file, which can reduce image quality.

2) Check your screen before approving artwork

Turn off True Tone, Night Shift, Night Light, and other warm-colour filters.
Set screen brightness to a moderate level rather than very high brightness.
Review the file in balanced daylight or neutral indoor light.
If you can, compare the same file on more than one device.

3) If colour is critical for a logo or brand

Let us know colour accuracy is important before production.
Provide the cleanest source file available.
Vector PDF or transparent PNG is preferred for logos.
Understand that edible printing still has limitations and exact matching cannot be guaranteed.
If timing allows, ask about a test print or sample first.

Recommended customer file setup

Item	Recommended setup
Colour space	`sRGB`
Best file formats	PNG, PDF, or high-quality JPG
Profile	Embed ICC profile if available
For logos	Vector PDF or transparent PNG preferred
For photos	Original high-quality image, not screenshot
Avoid	Low-resolution files, screenshots, filtered images, compressed social-media images, photos of a monitor

Customer acknowledgement

By submitting artwork and placing an order, the customer acknowledges that:

colour may vary from screen to edible print,
edible inks and edible media have natural limitations,
exact matching to a phone or monitor is not guaranteed,
gold, silver, fluorescent, and highly luminous effects cannot be reproduced as true special finishes,
the final look can change once applied to buttercream, fondant, chocolate, cookies, drinks, or other desserts.

Quick screen setup guide

Best viewing setup:
True Tone / Night Shift / Night Light OFF
Moderate brightness
Neutral room lighting
Check file on more than one device if possible

This reduces the chance of approving artwork on a screen that is too warm, too cool, or too bright.

Common colour limitations

Neon green may print less electric.
Hot pink may print softer or duller.
Deep dark colours may appear less rich.
Silver and gold are simulated colours, not metallic finishes.
Very vivid digital colours may fall outside practical edible output.

Suggested website note

We print colours as close as possible to the supplied file, but edible colours are not exact like regular commercial printing and may vary from screen to screen, lighting to lighting, and media to media.
