At Edible Final Touch, we always try to print your design as close as possible to the file you provide. However, edible printing will not match a phone, tablet, or computer screen exactly. This page explains why, how to reduce colour surprises, and gives you an interactive colour tool to preview RGB, HEX, and estimated CMYK values.

Why colours look different from screen to print
- Screens emit light. Printed edible sheets do not. This alone makes screen colours appear brighter and more vibrant.
- Each device is different. iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows, tablets, and external monitors can all show the same file differently.
- Screen settings change colour. True Tone, Night Shift, Night Light, blue-light filters, vivid mode, and display warmth all affect what you see.
- Edible inks are not the same as standard inks. They usually print softer, less saturated, and more matte than commercial print.
- Edible paper changes output. Icing sheets, wafer paper, drink toppers, and other edible media all receive colour differently.
- Lighting matters. Daylight, warm indoor bulbs, venue lighting, and photography can all change perceived colour.
- Metallic and fluorescent effects are limited. Gold, silver, chrome, neon, glow, and reflective effects are not reproduced as true metallic or fluorescent finishes in edible printing.
How to avoid colour surprises
1) Prepare your file properly
- Send the original artwork file whenever possible.
- Avoid screenshots, social media downloads, and photos of a screen.
- Use high-resolution PNG, PDF, or high-quality JPG.
- Use sRGB as the file colour space when possible for artwork shared online.
- Embed a colour profile if your software allows it.
- Do not over-edit or repeatedly save the same file, which can reduce image quality.
2) Check your screen before approving artwork
- Turn off True Tone, Night Shift, Night Light, and other warm-colour filters.
- Set screen brightness to a moderate level rather than very high brightness.
- Review the file in balanced daylight or neutral indoor light.
- If you can, compare the same file on more than one device.
3) If colour is critical for a logo or brand
- Let us know colour accuracy is important before production.
- Provide the cleanest source file available.
- Vector PDF or transparent PNG is preferred for logos.
- Understand that edible printing still has limitations and exact matching cannot be guaranteed.
- If timing allows, ask about a test print or sample first.

Easy to order, great communication, ready quickly. Made customizing my son's birthday cake with his favourite character a breeze!
From a print quality perspective the picture was perfect. However we followed the instructions for laying the image on the cake and it never melted into the cake as we hoped. Even after two days sitting on top of the cake the image was still difficult to cut cleanly and was like eating paper. I will try again to see if the result was something I did wrong but I was disappointed with this first result.
